Tamarack Garlic Farm is excited to offer our first crop of French Grey shallots for eating and planting.
French Grey (Griselle) shallots are highly prized by kitchen chefs, foodies, and home cooks for their rich, creamy texture and refined umami flavor that is mild, yet distinctive in flavor..
Gardeners like the simplicity of planting the hard, grey skinned true shallots 12" apart down the row. Plant only in the fall and harvest the following summer. Use within 3-4 months of harvest.
Although it takes a little time to peel them, it is worth it because they have an out-of-this-world, flavor all their own. As with many of the most exotic or rare delicacies, they are not long-keepers and must be savored shortly after harvest or cooked and frozen for later enjoyment.
Approximate bulbs per pound is 25-40, but this can vary based on seasonal conditions and the variety. Shallots need to be planted shortly after arrival. Quantities are limited; order early for best availability. Please note that shallots will be available for reservation on a first come-first served basis, and will not ship out earlier than September 6th.
