Making a Connection...

We've been busy telling people our story and informing them about the potential of garlic scapes this week at Farmer's Markets in Holmen, Trempealeau, and Galesville. Until this week, I've always been on the buying end at farmer's markets, and now "on the other side the table" I can tell you it's just as fun talking with the customer suggesting what they can do with the product.

I will admit that most people in West-Central Wisconsin that we've met this week have never heard or seen a scape, so the sales pitch for us was almost rather exhausting, yet fun at the same time. We'll likely do a few more markets with scapes, then take a hiatus from the markets while we're in garlic harvest mode.
Rochester Wholesale Fruit of Winona and Midtown Foods have been selling our scapes to customers, along with getting a nice shout-out from Cam at Elmaro Vineyard has been great for local exposure too.

We've picked the majority of our scapes, and couldn't have done it without our scape harvest crew!

So yeah... the line in the picture is pointing really close to the garlic farm.  I don't think we need 5"+ of rain all at once....

Good day for a Tour...

Today we had two visitors from Eastern Wisconsin visit the farm to learn some tips, tricks, and what-not-to-do's of starting up a garlic business on a farm that has been in the family for several generations raising "conventional" crops.  With their skill-set, determination, and attitude we're sure that they can be successful raising garlic if they put their all into it!

Other than that, Jason spent time cleaning out the garlic garage and assembled some shelving for garlic shipments, and Dan finished the last row of weeding the outside row of Metechi garlic (always has the most weeds)... Also a big shout-out to Emily for her weeding skills and work-ethic yesterday.  It is appreciated!

And to top things off, we had close to 2" of rain over night.  That in conjunction with the warm, sunny temperatures will help make big bulbs this week.  And if that's not enough, we'll start cutting scapes later this week too!
